Beechies Gum

A generation defining bubblegum

Beechies Gum: What was it all about?

The Bubblegum craze gripped most of the world during the 1980s. In fact, in many terms, it became pop culture. Blowing bubbles became a trend. The parent company, Beech-nut, produced the gum in various flavors.

One for everyone’s personal taste. The slogan “Beechies is the thing to share“, became the unofficial phrase for bubblegum. It eventually disappeared in most countries, and all that remains are decades-old sealed packets for sale on e-Bay. As an iconic 80’s product, there is not really much available online about the 1980’s specific version.

Packaging

The Eighties

Packaging during the eighties consisted of a rectangular box with the gum pieces loosely packed inside, with a rattling sound if you shake the box.

Later packaging types had a cellophane wrapping that opened by drawing on the red strip.
