1 KITT

The abbreviation “KITT” stands for “Knight Industries Two thousand”

2 The car’s voice

The voiceover for KITT was done by William Daniels, the guy who plays Mark Craig in the tv drama “St. Elsewhere”

3 The Cylon connection

The roving red light on the bonnet of KITT was copied from the roving red light on the face of the Cylon cyborgs from Battlestar Galactica. The sound was also copied.

4 The mobile headquarters

Whenever KITT drives into the moving truck, you can notice that the car narrowly fits into the truck. However, when switching to the inside, Michael opens the door wide, gets out, and slams it shut.

5 Hasselhoff did not know

Only six months after the first season was filmed, did David Hasselhoff meet William Daniels, the voice of the car he is driving.

6 The Beetle connection

Glen A. Larson, the producer of Knight Rider, got the idea for KITT and the show after watching the 1971 movie “The Love Bug Rally”

7 Autopilot

The car was driven by a stunt driver seated on the passenger side, whenever Hasselhoff was filmed riding the car on autopilot.

8 Super persuit mode

The scene where the car transforms into a car/airplane hot pursuit surface rocket is actually filmed on a motionless car, specially built for the “transformation”. All the mechanics to make the transformations were so big, there was no space in the car for an engine or transmission.

9 The Car

The car used in Knight Rider is a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, with a bit of steroid added. back then the bill to modify the car amounted to $100,000.

10 The ex wife

Catherine Hickland, Hasselhoff’s ex wife, starred in three episodes of Knight rider. Ironically, later she married another actor called Michael E. Knight
