Look Who’s Talking

Look Who’s Talking was released in 1989 and performed fairly well at the box office. Starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, with Bruce Willis providing the baby’s voice.

The film grossed $297 million worldwide and spent 5 weeks at number 1. It was popular enough to spawn two sequals.



The Movie

Mollie (Kirstie Alley) is an accountant living in New York. She has an affair with a married man and ultimately falls pregnant. In the meantime the film shows the baby, Mikey, talking to himself inside the womb. Tugging at the cord. On realizing the father of the baby has no intention of leaving his wife for her, but another woman, she becomes so upset she goes into labor. She gets into a cab driven by James Ubriacco who frantically navigates the traffic to get to the hospital. Needless to say, he witnesses the birth of Mikey.

Mollie becomes friends with James (Travolta), who becomes quite fond of Mikey. Not being what Mollie sees as an ideal father, she never considers him as a husband. it is when she overhears James on the baby monitor, telling Mikey he won’t be around anymore, that she has a change of heart

Not wanting James to leave, Mikey wanders off and gets into a cab parked in the alleyway, In turn, the cab gets towed away with Mikey inside. Mollie and James pursue the towtruck in his cab and manages to bring the truck to a stop. Mikey gets out and wanders into the traffic. James manages to snatch him from the oncoming traffic. This is where Mollie decides to give him a chance.

The movie is filled with funny comments by the baby. Bruce Willis really does a good job with the voice over. If you have not seen Look Who’s Talking yet, put it on your to do list.
