Letraset
Letraset was founded in London, in 1959. The sheets of dry transfer sheets became quite popular with artists and designers. The product sold well into the eighties but declined significantly at the turn of the decade.
The Magic Of Letraset

The transferable characters were widely used by printers, design studios, and graphic and designers until the late eighties.

But with the advent of the home computer, things started to change for the company and its wonder product. Slowly it was replaced by desktop publishing.

In an effort to keep up with the times, the company released software packages like Imagestudio and Colorstudio for Macintosh.
Other Products

The innovation was not limited to lettering. Many companies grabbed the idea to market merchandise, or promote products. Transferable pictures were released, featuring characters from the Star Wars films for example.
