Robocop is arguably one of the best sci-fi action flicks of the decade. Here are 15 Snappy Facts About Robocop that you probably didn’t know.

1 The Big Suit
Nowhere in the movie do they show Robocop actually getting into the police car or getting out. The suit Weller wore was too big to fit in the car. In most scenes when getting out, they would only show one foot being put on the ground. While driving, Weller would only wear the top piece of the suit, while only wearing underwear.

2 The Hot Suit
The Robocop suit was so heavy and hot, that Weller lost an average of 3 pounds a day in water until they installed an air conditioner in the suit.
3 Catching Keys
The Robocop suit’s hands were made of foam rubber, causing the keys to bounce every time Weller tries to catch them. Needless to say, it took one full day with 50 filming attempts to get it right.
4 Special Effects
Special effects for the movie were generated on a Commodore Amiga.

5 The Expensive Suit
The Robocop suit was the most expensive item on set. Producers of the film indicated that anything between $500,00 and $1 million was spent on it.
6 Bankrupt Detroit
In the movie, the city of Detroit is bankrupt, and policing were outsourced. Funny enough, 26 Years later in 2013 the city of Detroit actually declared bankruptcy.
7 R Rating
To secure an R-rating, the producers had to submit the film no less than 12 times to the MPAA.
8 Inspiration For The Suit
Inspiration for the design of the suit came from the Japanese comic character Space Sheriff Gavan

9 Ford Taurus
The 1986 Ford Taurus used as Robocop’s police car, can be seen today on display at the Branson Auto Museum in Branson, Missouri.
10 Futuristic World
In the fourth draft of the script, the movie was to take place in a highly technological world in the years 2043 to 2044. Budget constraints, however, forced producers to set the film in the near future.

11 The F word
The popular Hollywood swear word was used no less than 35 times during the movie.
12 The Dallas Connection
Although the movie is set in a dystopian futuristic Detroit, most of the filming was done in Dallas.
13 The Surnames
The surnames of the scientists in the movie are those of U.S Presidents. The cops in the movie are named after serial killers.
14 Paul Verhoven
Robocop was Paul Verhoven’s first American film. He directed 8 films before this one. Being a newcomer did not stop Vehoven from telling Academy Award-winning make-up designer, Rob Bottin, that the first designs of the suit looked like crap.

Robocop could not walk up or down stairs.
