Beverly Hills Cop stars Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley. A cop from Detroit. When his friend is killed in California, he decides to visit the state and solve his friend’s murder.

Sylvester Stallone was initially chosen for the role but left two weeks before filming started. Producers at Paramount deemed Stallone’s script too expensive. Others that were also considered for the role of Axel Foley were Harrison Ford, Richard Pryor, Al Pacino, and James Caan.



The Soundtrack was released by MCA records and won a Grammy Award. Hits like “Neutron Dance” by the Pointer Sisters, and the instrumental “Axelf” can be found on the soundtrack album.

Eddie Murphy was propelled into stardom by the movie and was the first of a film series, spawning two equals in 1987 and 1994 respectively. It was nominated for one Academy Award, and the soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album. The film won the “Peoples Choice Award” in 1984.
