The 1986 war film was directed by Oliver Stone. Platoon was nominated for 8 Oscars and won 4. Best Film, Best Director, Best Sound, and Best Film Editing. It grossed $138 million on a budget of $6 million. In 2019 it was preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry. Filming took place on location in the Philippines during 1986, over 54 days. Oliver Stone, himself a marine during the war, became the first veteran to write and direct a Vietnam war film.

The Movie


Starring Charlie Sheen as private Chris Taylor. He joins the 25th infantry Division, stationed close to the Cambodian border. The platoon that Tayler is assigned to, is lead by an inexperienced Lieutenant Wolfe. During combat, the platoon gradually turns to two older and more experienced soldiers for leadership. Tom Berenger plays the role of Staff Sergeant Bob Barnes, while Willem Dafoe is Sergeant Elias Grodin.
