Prime Time Soap Opera.

Dynasty first aired in 1981 on ABC primetime. The show ran for nine seasons, comprising 220 episodes. Aaron Spelling was the producer. Dynasty was born out of the need by ABC to compete directly with CBS’s Dallas. It was during the second season that the show took off. During the first episode, Joan Collins made her appearance, and the episode was fittingly called “Enter Alexis”. The British actor made the show. By the end of 1982, it was in the top 10.

By 1985 it was the number one show in the U.S. The last two seasons, however, saw a decline in viewership. The end was inevitable, with the last episode in 1989. The show received Golden Globe awards every year from ’81 to ’86, winning in 1983


The Show

Coming to the plot, it revolves around a powerful and influential oil tycoon, Blake Carrington (John Forsythe). Linda Evans plays the ex-secretary and would-be bride Krystle Jennings. Joan Collins plays the role of the scheming Alexis Carrington.

The cast included a whole variety of actors like Heather Locklear, Pamela Sue Martin and Al Corley amongst others. Filming was done at Warner Hollywood Studios in Hollywood, California. A spin-off called “The Colbys” was released in 1985.
