Bravestarr is an American animated cartoon based on the 1986 toy range by Mattel. It was released in September 1987 and ended in February 1988. Spanning over 65 episodes. Each episode is 25 minutes.

This would not be the first cartoon based on a toy range, as the norm is to create toys from successful tv shows. Masters of the Universe had the same humble beginnings.

Produced by Filmation also known for creations like He-Man, She-Ra, and Shazam!. It would be the last cartoon production by the studio before shutting down in 1989. Like other Filmation creations, BraveStarr has a discussion about moral issues at the end of the episode.

BraveStarr: The Show

The show is set on a 23rd-century alien planet called New Texas. A desert world with a cosmopolitan civilization. The planet revolves around 3 suns and the main activity is the mining of Kerium. The hero of the story is Marshal Brave Starr, the local sheriff, and together with his horse, Thirty/Thirty, they fight various villains in the show.

There is a whole array of characters. Among them are the good guys. Angus McBride, Billy-Bob, and Commander Karen Kane. Notorious villains appear in the show like Stampede (leader of the Outlaws), Tex Hex, and, The Carrion Bunch

In 1988 a full-length film was released. Various merchandise based on the theme appeared on the market. Video games for the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. The show was released on VHS in compilations.
