The Challenger Disaster

On 28 January 1986, the NASA space shuttle Challenger was launched for its tenth mission into space. It disintegrated in mid-air a couple of minutes after launch.


On 26 April 1986 an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union, caused an explosion. The nearby city of Pripyat had to be evacuated. It is still off-limits to this day.

The Lockerbie Bombing

On 21 December 1988, the trans-Atlantic flight of Pan Am 103 was brought down over Lockerbie, Scotland. It was a dark day for international air travel. Hidden onboard was an explosive device, that broke the aircraft apart mid-air. The incident claimed all lives onboard.

The Falklands Conflict

Between 2 April 1982 and 14 June 1982 Britain and Argentina became embroiled in an undeclared war over the Falkland Islands. A British naval task force was dispatched to the islands after Argentina occupied them.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall

1989. On November 9th a major event unfolded in World Politics. This was the day that a divided country peacefully dismantled the Berlin Wall.

Tiananmen Square Protests

1989. Chinese pro-Democracy students protested from April 15 to June 4th in Beijing. It all played out on the infamous Tiananmen Square. This was the footage that captured the attention of audiences around the globe.
