The Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana. 29 July 1981

The Wedding
On July 29th, 1981 Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer got married in St Paul’s Cathedral. Charles was the heir to the throne, while Diana was a member of the Spencer family. So big was the entire event, a national holiday was observed for the wedding.

The wedding was attended by 3500 guests. So the traditional site of royal weddings, Westminster Abbey, was replaced by St Paul’s Cathedral to accommodate the large congregation. It is estimated that the ceremony had a global audience of 750million. The cost of the royal wedding was extreme. Security knocked $600,000 out of the $48 million spent on the day.
