The Album

Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden) is the debut studio album by the English heavy metal band. It was released on 14 April 1980 by EMI Records in the UK. The album peaked at number four on the UK Albums Charts.

The album received critical acclaim upon release.

Geoff Barton wrote in Sounds:

“Heavy metal for the ’80s, its blinding speed and rampant ferocity making most plastic heavy rock tracks from the ’60s and ’70s sound sloth-like and funeral-dirgey by comparison”.

“Running Free” was released as a single on 8 February 1980 and reached number 34 on the UK Singles Charts. This is also the only album to include Dennis Stratton, leaving the band after their European tour as support to KISS

Lyrics

Ok

Just 16, a pickup truck
Out of money, out of luck
I’ve got nowhere to call my own
Hit the gas, and here I go

I’m running free yeah!
I’m running free
I’m running free yeah!
Oh I’m running free

Spent the night in an L.A jail
And listened to the sirens wail
They ain’t got a thing on me
I’m running wild, I’m running free

I’m running free yeah!
I’m running free
I’m running free yeah!
Oh I’m running free

Get out off my way, yeah!

I’m running free yeah!
I’m running free
I’m running free yeah!
Oh I’m running free

Puller here at the Bottle Top
Whiskey, dancing, disco hop
Now all the boys are after me
And that’s the way it’s gonna be

I’m running free yeah!
I’m running free
I’m running free yeah!
Oh I’m running free

Oh!

(I’m running free yeah!)
(I’m running free)

Running

(I’m running free yeah!)
(I’m running free)

Running

(I’m running free yeah!)
(I’m running free)

Running

(I’m running free yeah!)
(I’m running free)
