Cheers

Cheers debuted on September 30, 1982. Who can forget all the familiar faces? The show ran until May 20, 1993. Consisting of 273 episodes spread over 11 seasons. Cheers is an American sitcom on NBC produced by Paramount Network Television.


The Show

The Cast of Cheers. During its entire run, Ted Danson (former baseball player) played the character of Sam Malone. The bartender and owner of the bar called Cheers. Most of the show was filmed in front of a live studio audience at Paramount, Hollywood.

Woody Harrelson joined the cast from season 4 as Woody Boyd. An assistant bartender.

The theme song for Cheers was written by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo.

Kirsty Alley joined as the manager/owner of the bar in the role of Rebecca Howe. Other characters were Diane Chambers (Diane Long), Norman Peterson (George Wendt), and Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman). Kelsey Grammer appeared as Frasier Crane, the psychiatrist. Initially as a guest in seasons four and five, then in a returning role in season 6, and then as the main character until the end. Kelsey went on to appear in the spin-off “Frasier”. Cliff Clavin (John Ratzenberger), the mailman, started as a recurring character in season one, and from season two he starred as one of the main characters, a regular customer.

The series final was watched by 93 million viewers.
