The Album

Nirvana (Bleach) is the debut studio album by the band. It was released on 15 June 1989 by Sub pop. Initially, album sales were slow and peaked at around 40 000 units. Only after their 1992 release and success, Nevermind, the first album gained traction and eventually sold over 1,9 million copies in the USA.

Stephen Thomas Erlwine wrote in AllMusic:

“Kurt Cobain illustrated signs of his considerable songcraft” on Bleach, “particularly on the minor-key ballad ‘About a Girl’ and the dense churn of ‘Blew'”, summarizing the album as “a debut from a band that shows potential but haven’t yet achieved it.”

Lyrics

I need an easy friend
I do, with an ear to lend
I do, think you fit this shoe
I do, but you have a clue

I’ll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can’t see you every night
Free
I do

I’m standin’ in your line
I do, hope you have the time
I do, pick a number two
I do, keep a date with you

I’ll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can’t see you every night
Free
I do

I need an easy friend
I do, with an ear to lend
I do, think you fit this shoe
I do, but you have a clue

I’ll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can’t see you every night
No I can’t see you every night
Free
I do
I do
I do
I do
