Season 1- Robotech The Macross Saga
Robotech The Macross Saga is an American-Japanese anime production from 1985. The first season, called The Macross Saga, spans over 36 episodes and has gripped kids’ attention from the first episode called ‘Boobytrap‘. In 1999 an alien battlecruiser crashes on Macross Island. The authorities salvage the ship and rebuild it. With it came the knowledge of Robotecnology, and a strange energy source called “protoculture”.
Ultimately aliens arrive to claim back their battlecruiser, and the earthlings become embroiled in a fight with an unknown enemy. It is here that their newfound technology is put to the test.
Rick Hunter
Rick is a training pilot at the flight school and becomes a fighter pilot overnight, as he is pushed into service with his friend, the ace combat pilot, Roy. He develops relationships with both his friend Minmei and the higher-ranked Lisa.
Lynn Minmei
The young Minmei works at her Aunt’s Japanese restaurant. She is an aspiring singer and also friends with Rick. In the episode ‘Force of Arms‘, she performs the catchy song called ‘We will win’.
Lisa Hayes
Lisa is an officer on the bridge of the SDF-1. She becomes romantically involved with Rick and ultimately marries him.
Roy Fokker
Roy is an ace fighter pilot and a close friend to Rick. In episode 18 called ‘Farewell Big Brother‘, he sustains injuries, and eventually succumbs to them. It is most certainly one of the more emotional episodes of the season.
Captain Glovel
The Captain of the SDF-1 is tasked with ensuring the vessel does not fall into enemy hands. He is a lonely character, but a determined leader.
Commander Breetai
The commander of the Zentradi fleet was dispatched to re-acquire their lost battle fortress. He eventually turns against his own kind in defense of the humans and their planet.
